Voluum.com Tracker Integration in MGID Ads

Verification of Postback URL Settings

The instruction below only covers tracker integration. If you want a more comprehensive understanding of Voluum and MGID integration, please follow this link here.

MGID Ads Dashboard Settings

Start by creating an event and Postback URL in the MGID dashboard.

Follow these steps:

1. Create a new advertising campaign or edit an existing one by clicking on its respective icon in the dashboard.

1. Voluum_Dec

2. Navigate to the Conversion tracking section and select the Postback option in the Tracking settings tab.

2. Voluum_Dec

3. Add a new conversion goal and create a unique name for the goal. You can select an existing goal here as well.

This field accepts only Latin letters and numbers; when filled in, it is automatically assigned as the "e" parameter.

Here, you can also indicate the conversion cost (optional).

3. Voluum_Dec

Repeat these steps (i.e., add another goal) if you want to track more than one conversion goal. The system allows for tracking up to three conversion goals.

4. Voluum_Dec

4. You can track unique and non-unique conversions using Postback.

Find the conversion counting button under the advanced settings dropdown. By default, it’s set up to track only unique conversions.

However, some funnels require counting multiple conversions with the same click ID. An example of this is a standard funnel with a "purchase" conversion and an upsell action after the first purchase. In this case, the counting of non-unique conversions feature will be useful for accurate tracking.

The conversion counting setting is available separately for each of the three conversion goals.

5. Voluum_Dec

Keep in mind that if the setting is mistakenly switched to count all conversions, it may result in inaccurate statistics. Use this feature only when necessary for specific scenarios.

6. Voluum_Dec

5. Choose the Voluum template from the drop-down list.

The preconfigured template includes all mandatory data, including conversion steps and event names. It will automatically add a GET parameter for {click_id} macro to the tracking link,  real {click_id} and {revenue} macros to the postback URL.

7. Voluum_Dec

Additionally, you can also set up the following fields to meet your specific needs:

  • Add additional macro by clicking the plus button;
  • Add any additional parameters to your tracking link. Custom tags will be included alongside system-defined macros when your campaigns go live;
  • Add UTM tags to the link.

Check the Tracking link preview field to see how the appended part of your tracking link will look with all macros and tags included.

8. Voluum_Dec

6.  Scroll down to the Postback URLs section. Next to the goal name, click Get Postback URL and then copy the URL. Save the link on your device, as you will need it later.

9. Voluum_Dec

7.  Save changes if editing, or publish the campaign if creating a new one.

Voluum Dashboard Settings

The next step will be creating a traffic source, campaign and offer on the Voluum side.

Follow these steps:

  1. Log into the Voluum panel to create a new traffic source.
  2. Click Traffic sources and then Create

Volum_7

3. We recommend selecting the default MGID traffic source template. Type “mgid” in the search field, select the MGID template and click Next.

Volum_8Additional parameters and macros will be filled in automatically, as shown in the screenshot below.

Volum_9

4. The final step is to fill in the Postback URL (the link that was copied while creating Postback goals in the MGID dashboard) with a correct macro for Voluum.

Example:

https://a.mgid.com/postback/client_ID?c={externalid}&e=test_event&r={payout}

Where:

  • client_ID is a unique parameter for our system that is transferred to our system alongside the event's status.
  • c is a click ID’s macro. For Voluum, replace {click_id} with the {externalId} macro.
  • e=test_event is a Postback goal identifier that can be displayed in form of a {status} macro or status name
  • r is an optional parameter to which conversion revenue can be transferred. For Voluum, replace {revenue} with the {payout} macro.

In the event you want to pass more than one conversion event to MGID, it is necessary to switch on the "Traffic source postback URL per event type" option in Voluum and paste the additional postback links there.

Volum_10

5. Create a new offer. Click Offers and then Create.

Volum_11

The Postback URL is taken from the offer to transfer conversions from the landing page (site) to the Voluum tracker.

Therefore, only the offer name and the offer page URL is required here (e.g., http://yoursite.com?click_id={clickid}).

Volum_12

However, we recommend you also provide the parameter that is used by the Affiliate Network/Offer Owner to the Offer URL along with the {clickid} token.

To find out more, please contact the Affiliate Network or Offer Owner.

6. Create a new campaign in the Voluum dashboard. Click Campaigns and then Create.

Volum_13

Specify the information below:

  • Traffic source: Select the traffic source.
  • Redirect mode: Specify the type of redirection from Voluum to the landing page (site).
  • Path Destination: This is the funnel that your user will have to get through to visit the offer. Select either Landers & Offers (pre-sale and sale site) or Offers only (sale site).

Select the lander and/or offer you will be using in your campaign in the same way as the Offer URL from the previous step (e.g., http://yoursite.com?click_id={clickid}).

In this case, the click_id parameter transfers the internal clickid of the Voluum tracker to the landing page.

Volum_14

7. After saving the campaign, the link to the campaign will be displayed in the "Tracking & Automizer" tab. Copy the link and use it as your teaser link in the MGID Dashboard.

8. Your MGID campaign settings should resemble something like this:

Transferring Postback to Voluum

After customizing the MGID and Voluum dashboard, set up the transfer of Postback to the Voluum tracker from the Affiliate Network or the Offer Owner.

A POST request transfers Postback to Voluum.

The link should closely resemble this:  http://voluum_dedicated_domain.com/postback?cid=REPLACE&payout=OPTIONAL&txid=OPTIONAL

The domain may vary depending on the Voluum cabinet. In this case, we transfer the parameters cid - internal Voluum’s click_id; txid - transaction id; and payout - an optional parameter but necessary to transfer revenue to our conversion. Any handy solution for transferring Postback to Voluum can be chosen, e.g. JavaScript, GTM or PHP.

Verification of Postback URL Settings

Next, we recommend that you ensure postback setup was done successfully and is working properly. You can verify the setup by following this instruction.

To review the Postback setup:

  • Find an existing campaign you have created
  • Navigate to the Ads section
  • Click on the Ads preview button, displayed in the form of an eye icon

Volum_16

  • Click any advertisement widget and complete the conversion action.
  • View data regarding test conversions in the Campaign List and Campaign statistics interfaces (it will be displayed under the conversion column within 15 minutes).

By performing this check, the statistics can be reviewed and the desired additional parameter can be selected with a timestamp indication in the tracker:
