Introduction

MGID Video Player is a high-performing, user-centric video solution designed to increase both engagement and revenue from your traffic.

With MGID, you can easily unlock new video revenue streams while preserving a smooth, non-intrusive experience for your audience.

By enabling MGID Video on your website, you can:

  • Monetize with in-stream and out-stream video placements to open additional revenue channels without harming user experience.
  • Rely on AI-driven optimization: MGID’s smart video player automatically selects the most relevant, high-performing video ads to maximize engagement and revenue per view.
  • Access diversified demand: connect to a blend of direct and programmatic video campaigns from MGID’s global advertiser base.
  • Enjoy a lightweight, publisher-friendly setup: integration is quick, requires minimal technical effort, and fits seamlessly into your existing layout.

MGID offers both outstream and instream video formats, so you can choose the option that best fits your content.

Outstream formats:

1. Stand-alone outstream video: a video player is embedded directly into the article body.

2. Slider outstream video: the player slides out from the edge of the screen, attracting user attention while keeping the main content accessible.

3. In-widget outstream video: A video ad player is integrated into the MGID widget or placed directly above or below it.

Instream formats:

  1. In-stream accompanying content video: format video ads appear inside content as pre-roll, mid-roll, or post-roll.

2. Tricky in-stream (exclusive MGID format)
This exclusive format combines the strengths of instream and outstream:

  • The player is launched only when a video ad is ready to serve.
  • After the ad, the player remains on the page to show video content.
  • If no video ad is available, native ads are served instead.

For both instream and outstream, you can enable a sticky mode:

  • The video player stays within the visible area of the screen even when the user scrolls down.
  • This improves viewability and typically drives higher performance and revenue.

Video Player and VAST Integration Setup

MGID VAST integration is designed for publishers who already run a video player. If you already use your own video player, you can access MGID premium video demand, improving your fill rate and revenue. This allows you to enhance your current player’s monetization without redesigning your setup.

Connecting MGID video solutions is straightforward and fast.

  • Check minimum requirements: Ensure your website meets the minimum requirements for video monetization. This is crucial to maintaining a high-quality video inventory for advertisers and achieving sustainable, effective monetization.

  • Set up the video player: your MGID account manager will either help to embed the MGID video player directly on your site, or guide you through every step required for VAST integration with your existing player.

The Website Requirements for Video Monetization

Your website must have at least 1 million page views per month, with high-quality traffic, to enable and activate video monetization.

Traffic must be mainly organic and direct. Social traffic is also accepted; however, the website should have a high rank in its country and/or category. It is also mandatory to have readable content and a user-friendly layout for both mobile and desktop.

In-stream format for websites with their own video content and player is available only after providing any legal document confirming their right to use such content (e.g. video content purchase agreement, video content creation services agreement, audio license).

Setting up the MGID Video Player

To activate the MGID Video Player, follow these steps:

  1. Choose your video format: Decide which video format(s) you want to use and send a request to your MGID account manager.
  2. Get a tailored monetization setup: MGID’s video team will analyze your traffic and recommend the most effective video campaigns for your website.
  3. Add ads.txt entries: Your account manager will send you one or more invitations to add the required ads.txt lines.
  • Accept the invitations from the relevant platforms.
  • Add the provided lines to your ads.txt file.

In some cases, you may also need to add a widget installation code to your HTML.

Once the MGID video player is implemented:

  • Open any page where the player should be active.
  • Make sure the player loads correctly and test basic behavior (play, pause, scroll, etc.).

If you need to add extra settings (like sticky option, disable the close button, enable/ disable autoplay, or change the ad schedule), simply contact your MGID account manager and they will configure it for you.

Setting up the VAST tag in Publisher’s Player

If you’re using your own video player and want to connect MGID via VAST:

  1. Accept invite(s) from demand-side platforms and add the ads.txt lines provided by MGID’s account manager. Once completed, the MGID manager will then provide the VAST tag URL.
  2. Log in to your player platform where you manage ad sources to add the VAST tag.
  3. Insert the VAST tag as a separate source.
  4. Configure additional parameters (if needed), such as tag priority in the waterfall, capping, etc.

Troubleshooting

  • Player shows a VAST error.

Check the VAST errors list in the Google help center and follow the recommended actions. If the issue persists, contact your MGID account manager for support.

  • MGID VAST tag implementation is not generating impressions

Possible cause: the tag’s priority in the player’s waterfall is too low. Increase the priority of the MGID VAST tag in your player’s ad sources. If that does not solve the problem, reach out to your MGID account manager to investigate further.

FAQ

  • How can I improve video performance on my website?

Ask your account manager to enable the sticky player option. A sticky player increases viewability, which usually leads to better performance and higher video ad revenue.

  • Why did my fill rate drop?

It is normal to see a temporary drop in video fill rate at the beginning of each month. This is related to advertiser campaign planning:

Monthly budgets for existing campaigns may be fully spent.

New campaigns and rotations need a few days to launch and stabilize.

If you notice a drop and it does not recover, contact your MGID account manager so they can check the specific reason and suggest optimization steps.

  • Who should I contact for support?

If you are already working with MGID, please contact your MGID account manager directly.

If you are not yet a publisher with MGID but would like to join, fill in the form on our contact page.
